I always use a creme rinse , but also when i was younger i used a detangler, they keep your hair smoother and it is much easier to get a brush through. i'm not sure what form they come in now, but they used to be in a spray.

Sounds like you might have curly hair. If you do, Mixed Chicks Deep conditioner is good. If you use it in the shower, then comb your hair with it in, before rinsing, it will be easier to brush later.
