Birman cat; brush several times a day %26amp; hair everywhere! owned cat 4 months. do what? cat is 5yrs.old.?
Yep I would say it's normal - I just finished brushing my sister's SHORTHAIRED half British Blue. She's 9. Well I say finished - it's not a job that's ever finished, she just has so much hair! You can get armfuls off her and still not be finished. It is worse in summer. Her other cat was even 'worse'. I don't think there's much you can do that you aren't doing - keep it up though, it'll be a lot worse if she gets matted!

Hi, cats and longer haired dogs have 2 coats of hair.
Brushing will only remove dead hair on the upper coat, you'll need a specific brush to get both the lower and upper coats.

I don't have that breed (as far as I know! She was a stray.), but I do have a long-haired cat and have had many different breeds of cats my whole life. Shedding tends to be year round; however, it is definitely heaviest in warm weather.
Brushing several times a day is actually encouraging shedding because you are over-stimulating the follicles and loosening the older fur. Don't brush your cat more than once per day and the shedding will probably actually lessen!
In the meantime, invest in a tape roller that removes pet hair from clothing and furniture. It's a godsend!
To the poster who mentioned the two coats of hair. Birmans have only one coat...they do not have an undercoat. I have two Birmans and yes, this is the time of year when you will see the most shedding. I find the zoom groom and furminator make no difference so I just use a steel comb which mine prefer. It's part of having Birmans I'm afraid
