What is a good grooming brush for a long hair cat?

My cat's fur is getting matted in some places, and on his side I can easily pull the "fluff" out. The brush I have just isn't doing very well at gathering all the loose fur.

Buy a comb. Some people may recommend a "Furminator." I have no problems with that, but it is pricy I gather.

I do just fine with a little "flea comb" that I bought for around $5. It doesn't look like it could get through long hair, but it does. You wouldn't believe all the undercoat it gets out!

I usually have enough in the garbage can to build a second cat.

It's made for dogs but I use it on my cat and it works great for exactly what you are describing. It's called the Mars Coat King. I bought it for my dogs but now use it on my cat. The manufacturer says it's also good for cats. Check it out here.

I highly recommend the furminator tool! It pulls the undercoat out and you'll be amazed at how much fur you get!!

I use the same undercoat comb that I use on my sheltie and my lab. It is an undercoat brush and I got it at petsmart. It cost me about 7 bucks and it works wonders...my cat is long haired and my sheltie has alot of hair too and it works very well...I have bought 3 others combs and brushes trying to find 1 to help and this one by far exceeds the others. Good luck!

What about a cat slicker/ bristle brush with comb. One side is a wire slicker ans the other a comb. It runs $10.00 to $12.00 You might find them at Target or Pets Mart or the Web Site below.
