Contrary to popular belief some long haired dogs actually shed less then short haired. I have a golden retreiver that I brush daily and hardly have any hair in my house. They will shed more in the spring when they are losing their winter coat for their summer coat and then again in the fall when they lose their summer coat for their winter one.... but any dog is going to do this. Brushing is important though to avoid matts... pay special attention to the long hair under their tail and behind their back legs.

Brushing your hair is the biggest mistake if you do not want it to be frizzy! You should only brush it after you shower, because otherwise you only charge it (electricity... static) and it gets frizzier and frizzier with everytime you do it.

It is advisable that in this cases you use a comb with teeth very far apart, just to stop your hair from freezing. And if you cant do this because you dont own one or because you thing your hair looks undone, brush it lightly and not too much, and wear hair serum, but not too much because then your hair might feel (but not look) greasy on the top specially.

The best way to fix static is to use the harder toothed brushes and not the soft ones. i know its not as comfortable but it stops frizz and keeps your hair from getting oily. {as long as you dont brush ur hair too much}

Chi's are very expensive, usually around $200... if that is out of your price range you can get a really good one, i own it, for about $40. its a 1" ceremic flat iron from conair. (Called Infiniti by Conair) it has adjustable temperatures for best use on your hair without damaging it. If you but from conair, its about $60.. buy it from walmart, much cheaper.

First, you probably have a waxy build up in your hair from using store bought products - pantene and dove are very good at building wax up in the hair, as are other more expensive store brands - do not use them. The cheaper store brands have the opposite effect, so if you are using something like suave in your hair, you might be stripping all the moisture out of your hair and that is why it is frizzy and tangles all the time.

In the first situation, for a cheap fix, wash your hair with a mixture of baking soda and dish soap, which will strip all the gunk out of your hair. Then start over.

In the end, you need a good professional product with moisture,as wavy hair is usually dryer. I know the price of professional products seems outragous!! After all, they can run about $22/liter. However, you should only be using a dime to a quarter size amount on your hair of the shampoo and the conditioner. These products are concentrated. A liter of shampoo should last a person with shoulder length hair 5-6 months. So you are really only spending about $3-4/month on each.

I thought buying professional products was a waste of money until one a long time ago, my stylist sold me a bottle of good shampoo for my hair (Bed Head Moisture Maniac)-my hair is wavy too, and a 12oz bottle lasted me about 2 months. At the time my hair was to the middle of my back. And it was less frizzy and much softer. I didnt need as much product once my hair had the moisture it needed.

I just bought some really cheap stuff at Wal Mart. It wasn't there Equate brand, but maybe a spin off of. I can't remember the name. It is in pink bottles. Everything was $1.46. They have straightening balm and frizz control serum. Works pretty good.

then get a straightening hair gel, and a curly..I use L.A. Looks..it's cheap.

spray your hair down with the spray, and brush(when hair is wet of course) and then take a small amount(nickle to quarter size) of the straight and curly gel and mix it in your hands..smooth it all through your hair...and brush in a style you want..

if you want you can follow up with hair spray or mousse to hold it.

It's certainly normal for hair to fall out on it's own, in the shower, or when you brush it. But if it's coming out by the handfuls, that doesn't sound normal. I would talk to your doctor. You could have a protein deficiency or something like that. Or it could be as simple as wearing rubberbands or ponytail holders too tight in your hair. When you remove them, it might be ripping out your hair.

If he begins to scratch, has diarhhea or vomits after getting them, discontinue them and see your vet.

You can also give a B-50 B complex vitamin and 500mg vit C as Ester C daily. Plain yogurt (1/4 cup) twice a week is good, too.

Another important part of grooming a lond haired dog like a golden is to use a coat rake. A rake is an inexpensive item that you can probably oick up at walmart or any pet supply store. It will have directions for use on the package. These make the chore of getting out the undercoat, which is what is being shed, much easier and faster.

And the rake is great on carpeted stairs as a pre-vacuum to get up all the mess....

Don't try to brush out any mats that may have formed. Just clip them away...and always keep the fur behind the ears clipped to avoid mats...

Well, it is the beginning of summer, so some of that winter coat will sluff off. But, if it seems in excess to you, make sure that his diet is a good one. Dogs will show lack of good nutrition through their fur and skin. If he has what looks like dandruff on his skin, he isn't getting enough oils and moisture in his food. You may want to switch him to a better grade of food. Or try drizzling a little olive oil on the dry food. My dogs also get a scrambled egg once and awhile, the protein really makes their coat shinny and strong. They are just like humans, in that what they take in, creates what shows on the outside.

the other answers given about how to tease will help you... however, the real key to getting volume is using a volumizing product like a root lifter (My favorite is by Big Sexy Hair.. i forget the name of the product itself but it's from that line... and I also like the Bed Head Superstar blow dry lotion) You want to apply to towel-dried hair just to your root area... kinda split your hair little section by little section and squirt the root lifter on (or if you use the Bed Head stuff, drizzle about the size of a dime into your hands and rub it through them really good, then rub it into your hair, getting it at the roots with your fingers) and then blow dry your hair... do it upside down to create even more volume, and when your hair is dry, before flipping your head back over, switch your dryer setting to cool and cool your hair down before flipping back over, this will set it... I GUARANTEE that you will have LOADS of volume and you probably will have to do very minimal teasing, if any at all!!!!

A drop of jojoba oil is a good leave in conditioner. Kiehl's Silk Groom is a good styling cream. It conditions hair and adds a bit of definition w/o stiffness.

Comb it. I used to brush it, but my hairdresser told me that brushing was hard on my hair type. I was brushing the life out of it. Comb (or brush if you must) starting from the bottom of your hair and work your way up and don't brush the scalp. It's not good for your roots. (and you can part your hair anywhere)

On the weekends I leave my hair in a pony tail and I might not brush it until the next morning and I have a big mess. Especially when I wash it. If I had it up in a pony tail for a day or two. Even if I'm not going to wash it or do anything with it, I will take down the ponytail in the morning and in the evening to brush it to remove the fallen hair. Also as your hair gets longer you will notice it more, because since it is longer you think its more.

Please don't go for a month with out brushing it, it isn't a good thing. Brushing also stimulates the roots and scalp, causing good blood flow and new growth as well as releasing natural oils that help tame those frizzy.
